Weird Cool Dumb’s Most Anticipated Movies of 2014

Inherent ViceThese are the 10 movies scheduled for release in 2014 that I’m most looking forward to.

2014 is shaping up to be a really good year for movies! Many of my favorite directors are releasing new films & there are a number of original films that I have high hopes for. Surprisingly, I haven’t included any superhero movies on this list. I want to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Guardians of the Galaxy, just not as much as those listed below. Without further ado, here are my most anticipated movies of 2014 (in order of release).

Her [January 10, 2014]

I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from those who have already seen Her. 2014 may very well be the year of Joaquin Phoenix.

The Lego Movie [February 7, 2014]

On paper this movie sounds dumb. It smells like a money grab. Who knows, it may be just that, but the trailer surprised me & I have my fingers crossed for big things.

The Wind Rises [February 21, 2014]

Hayao Miyazaki can do no wrong in my book. This is Miyazaki’s final film & it explores the life of a man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II.

The Grand Budapest Hotel [March 7, 2014]

Wes Anderson’s newest movie. As usual, the cast is out-of-control-awesome (Jude Law, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel & many more)!

Transcendence [April 18, 2014]

This is the directorial debut of The Dark Knight/Inception cinematographer, Wally Pfister. Transcendence contributes to what seems to be the main theme of cinema in 2014 – technology.

22 Jump Street [June 13, 2014]

The reboot of 21 Jump Street caught many people off guard in 2012. It was absolutely hilarious & I’m hoping this sequel will live up to my higher expectations. {warning trailer above has explicit language}

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes [July 11, 2014]

I thoroughly enjoyed Rise of the Planet of the Apes & I think this is going to be just as fun. I’m a sucker for “monkey movies”.

Jupiter Ascending [July 18, 2014]

The Wachowskis are filmmakers whom I always give the benefit of the doubt. Cloud Atlas was an entertaining mess & I’m always waiting for them to make “the next Matrix”.

Inherent Vice [August 13, 2014]

Inherent VicePaul Thomas Anderson is a legendary director & Inherent Vice is a legendary book. Add in a little Joaquin Phoenix & this is without a doubt a must-see. {no trailer available yet}

Interstellar [November 7, 2014]

I don’t know much about this movie other than it’s an original Sci-Fi movie directed by Christopher Nolan & it has something to do with wormholes. That’s enough for me – sold.

A couple movies that just barely missed the list are Tusk (Kevin Smith) & Noah (Darren Aronofsky). Let me know what you think about my picks & what your most anticipated movies of 2014 are.
