Unclaimed Property – Search For Free Money

Before you dismiss this as spam, take a look. State governments keep track of all money/property that is unclaimed and it’s waiting in a database for you to find. Texas alone has 2.6 billion dollars waiting to be claimed.

The process of finding the money you’re owed is easy.

Step 1 –  Go to the NAUPA’s (National Association of Unclaimed PropertyAdministrators) website.

Step 2 – Click on the state you live in.

Now, this is where things diverge a little. The ease of finding and claiming your property varies quite a bit between states. I’ve only visited a few of the different states’ sites, but the Texas and California sites are easy to search through.

Step 3 – Click on the button or link that says “Search Unclaimed Property” (or something of the sort).

This is where the fun begins. Search for you, your family, and friends. I can almost guarantee you’ll find a little bit of money for someone you know. I’ve found a few hundred dollars for people I know.

Step 4 – Claim your property.

I haven’t made it to this step and I’m not sure how much of a hassle it is, but I’m interested to hear how the process goes.

Were you able to find any money? How much?
